"Azucar" ICE CREAM! {Food Friday!}

Two weeks ago, Mandy took me to a {sweet} little place called "Azucar". This home made ice cream place in Little Havana, is run by Suzanne Batlle, who was previous a banker and now running Azucar with help of her friends and family.

 OKAY, this is, BY FAR, one of the most delicious ice creams! It has vanilla cookie pieces, cream cheese and guava in it, and it was DIVINE.


i SPECIFICALLY asked for a 'cup' of ice cream with a cone on top JUST so i wouldn't drop all my ice cream out of the cone, and my "genius" plan STILL backfired!! I dropped the CONE on the floor. :( It was a very sad experience, and I'm sure the delicious, but at least there were bunches of amazing vanilla cookies IN the ice cream to make up for it! :D

I recommend going to Azucar next time you're in Miami, and make sure to check them out on Facebook too!

My friend StanlEy and I have decided that THE SONG since October was Adele's "Someone Like You" and since then it has been VERY MUCH overplayed to the point where i decided we need a new THE SONG.

I haven't quite figured out what can compare to the awesomeness of Adele, but i'm sure once i move to NY i'll figure it out.

"Books and Books" (Foodie Friday)

During a really swell trip to Miami to visit my bestest friend Mandy she brought me to a stellar Book Store/Cafe called "Books and Books".

"Books & Books is currently located in an exquisite 1927 building listed in the Coral Gables Register of Historic Places. The 9,000 square foot, Mediterranean-style building has original tile floors, a fireplace, beamed ceilings, floor-to-ceiling dark-wood bookshelves, and open-air courtyard and a full-service cafe."

Each of us had an Avocado, Lemon Pesto Cheddar sandwich, [i had them panini press mine], which were QUITE delightful.

Mandy enjoyed a cappuccino which she 'instagrammed' with great focus. ;)

But oddly enough, my highlight of my experience at Books and Books, was twittering back and forth with whoever is their [very quick to respond] social media person. :)

 I totally recommend visiting them if you are EVER in the vicinity of a one.

Life is hard, and there are a LOT of challenges. Sadly, right now, it feels there are more challenges then blessings, EVEN THOUGH, there are SOOOOO many good things happening.

Even during times of sorrow, there are ALWAYS things to be (THANKFUL) about.

THUS, "Thankful Thursday" was born. :)

In the upcoming weeks, i'm hoping to FILL Thursday's blog post with meaningful gems to Thanks.

This year has been an AMAZING year! Good gracious so many incredible things have happened!

In January i won a [grant] from United Arts.

In February i got in my [first] car accident. #w00t


In March i had a ME day!!

In April helped the talented Robin, hang an art show.

In May, I hung my VERY [FIRST art show]at B3 Cafe! 


In June i went to [the BIG apple] and saw ^them^!


In July, i spent the weekend with these GREAT peoples!

In August i hung my [2nd!!] art show at Raphsodic Bakery!!

In September we all sang in Rainy Day Revival!   
the choir band at my church!

In October...two words: DIM SUM!!!


My Art was HUNG at the Orlando Museum of Art!

In December i started to date my best friend.
I'm the luckiest girl in the world. :) :)

I'm happy that it's almost 2012 and am excited for all the adventures to come... but am so #thankful 2011 had so many blessings in it.

Thank you to all of my incredible friends, all the amazing people who supported Cherry Runway, and to my family. I'm a very lucky girl!

I've been 'slaving away' making new jewelries, getting ready for Holiday shows, among other {{REALLY COOL}} things i'll blog about later.

In the mean time, i just wanted to  C E L B R A T E  that i finished my WHOLE to do list today!!! And now i get to RELAX some and go hang out with friends, until tomorrow when the CRAZINESS ensues again.

FEAR in blogging.

Blogging has been uber hard for me, but inspiring as well. After taking Holly's Blogging You Way class, i've gotten a better grasp of the blogging world, but i still deal with the anxiety i've always felt with it. :( 

But tonight, while reading the 'up up creative' blog, [a creative business lady i both admire and feel inspired by] i noticed this little GEM in her bio; 

"... a post-partum depression & anxiety survivor. if you found me because of that, definitely read through the archives, reach out and say hi, and more than anything else just hang in there"

...and i suddenly felt less alone in this blogging world, knowing that it's okay that I'm suffering through a lot of things in life, in general, and even MORE...that's it's OKAY that I'm SHARING it with all of you. 

My MAIN goal in my life is to inspire, and i do hope, by sharing my life and my struggles with all of you on this blog, that one day someone will read my blog and think 'hm...i feel less alone in the world too'. 

I hope you've had a BEAUTIFUL thanksgiving week, and i look forward to writing more openly to ya'll soon.

Meeting Bakerella!

Meeting Bakerella; a story of happy inspiration

Last Saturday i had the PRIVILEGE of meeting Bakerella at my local Barnes and Nobles.

She briefly told us about how 'Bakerella' started, and let us ask any questions we wanted. She was so lovely, and so was her mother [who was her photographer that afternoon]. After she talked to us, we all got to meet/greet her, have her sign her book, and take pictures with us. Granted, in mine she wasn't looking at my camera, but her mom got a picture of us that she will hopefully post on her Flickr account.

It was SUCH a pleasure, and I'm so glad she finally came to Orlando to meet all her lovely fans in our area. [and a few other cities within two hours! a bunch of ladies DROVE hours to meet her!]

A couple weeks ago, some friends and i made out on 'easy' version cake pops. They don't look NEARLY as good as Bakerella's, but they tasted WONDERFUL. :)

It was a great afternoon, and very inspiring.

Paralyzed... [happy Moody Monday!]

It's such a shame.

I'm taking this AMAZING blogging course by Holly from Decor8 and all i feel is paralyzed by blogging.  - that my blog isn't pretty enough, or smart enough, or inspiring enough.

It's very hindering; these feelings...  especially when i am CONSTANTLY inspired by everything i click online.

I have trouble being completely  paralyzed by EVERYTHING i need to do in order to be a good blogger, a  good business person, successful enough to survive, etc.

I have trouble figuring out what the right FIRST steps to take are in this social networking world are...

I don't actually consider myself a jealous person  necessarily, but i always feel like I'm behind, and could never be 'as  good' or as 'interesting' as other people. I truly am not trying to  compare myself, but right now, i feel like there is so much to do to  'catch up' and that there is SO MUCH inspiration online, that i get  distracted or want to do everything, which makes me lose sight of what  makes me genuine. 

What breaks my heart the most is knowing i've dealt with these emotions for SUCH a long time! Years! And the that it's been hindering my growth for years, seems so very heart wrenching...

Does anyone else feel these heavy feelings? I don't feel as though i am alone in this boat, but sometimes the boat swishes through the waves, and i don't hear any other voices.

It's quite daunting.

Hello, Help Me, and Hooray.

The last few weeks have been a whirlwind... so many things happening, most not so great, that i feel lost in the shuffle of life. It's so draining, and saddening when things are out of your control and yet you have to take the fall for them. I recently had room mate.... 'troubles' and had to ask them both to leave. This is a huge issue for me seeing as i have a whole house to pay for, and not enough income to support it. After they [finally!!!!!!] left, i noticed a ton of damages done to my house, they didn't pay me all the rent money they owed me and my camera is missing.

It seems so sad that heart is breaking so much over the loss of camera... way more then the missing chunk of my sink..how DO YOU crack a sink?!?! And why woudn't you tell someone you broke said sink?

Anyways....since i'm out hundreds of dollars [pre-repairs], don't think i can buy a new camera right now, and without a camera, i can't color new doodles. [my camera is my 'scanner'.]

Aside from all the trauma/drama in my house hold life, I'm getting more and more scared that now my ears have hurt me for 10 months now. I've been putting off seeing a specialist until i had a little bit more money saved, but i think i just need to book the appointment already. I'm actually really scared, i don't know whats wrong and my doctor can't see anything that looks out of the norm, which terrifies me more.

Even during all this mess, i really am thankful that i have such good friends. New and old friends have been pretty supportive, lended me MANY OF ears to babble on to, or to cry and cheer with. So although i am very out of sorts right now, i feel blessed at least that I'm not going through it all alone.

I hope you are all doing well, and having stress free weeks, and if for some reason you're going through a rocky time, i hope you do in fact have people that are standing by you to hug you and hold your hand. ...or at least to bring you ice cream.

[Foodie Friday] Pasion del Cielo!

You know when you just walk into a cafe and it feels "homey". That's how it felt when my friend Mandy and I walked into Pasion del Cielo in Coral Gables. It's cute and quint, and had enough traffic where they seemed to be doing pretty well, without seemed over crowded, which made it a perfect place to relax and recharge for an afternoon.

The atmosphere was just lovely, with the sunshine grazing all the walls in the cafe, proving a yellow tinge all around us while we read and i drew doodles. The staff seemed nice, and the customers were very friendly. There seemed to be a great mix of regulars and newbies, like ourselves. I can't wait to go back next time I'm in Miami!

For the last few weeks, i've been TOTALLY into drawing science related doodles. Last week my friend Tiffany came over, and we made shrink plastic jewelry, and i finally got to make wearable science art!

i LOVE how they came out, and am starting to list them on my websites. This is the first piece i listed. It's called "Binary Love". I'm so proud of the collection!

When i heard this song from Natalie Grant, it was like i was listening to a song i have composed in my head hundreds of times if i didn't have writers block.

It hits so very close to home.

Once i found out it had to do with her struggle with an eating disorder it felt like it was my home.  

Eating disorder or NOT, if you struggle with self esteem issues, then you will resonate with this song.

When i was in the thick my eating disorder i was losing my hair. I have naturally curly hair which makes it appear thicker and easier to work with, but by the time i reached my lowest weight, i couldn't even put my hair in a pony tail without it falling right out.

On days like today, where i feel like i need to lose weight, when i feel like a beached whale, and when i feel like I'm a failure because i had too many sweets this week, i put my hair in a pony tail and think what a miracle it is to have my body functioning again. It's exciting that my hair has come back to adventure with me during these next trails of life.

Unless a medical issue has occurred, it doesn't seem likely many people would be so grateful to have a head of hair, but to me, it's a constant reminder of how far i have come, the trails i've been through, and reminds me of the bright future of ups and downs that's to come.

B-A-N-A-N-A bread!

YAYYYYY Banana Bread!

Ingredients

1 cup granulated sugar
8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature
2 large eggs
3 ripe bananas
1 tablespoon milk
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt

Directions

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. Butter a 9 x 5 x 3 inch loaf pan.

Cream the sugar and butter in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.

In a small bowl, mash the bananas with a fork. Mix in the milk and cinnamon. In another bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.

Add the banana mixture to the creamed mixture and stir until combined. Add dry ingredients, mixing just until flour disappears.

Pour batter into prepared pan and bake 1 hour to 1 hour 10 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Set aside to cool on a rack for 15 minutes. Remove bread from pan, invert onto rack and cool completely before slicing.

This recipe actually came out really well! We put Nutella on ours, and toasted it in the morning with our breakfast. HIGHLY recommended!

What do you do when things 'just. aren't. working.'

When life's complications are getting in the way of making progress in other areas right now?

I know that these complications will give me great growth in the future, but right now, it's just hindering everything else in my life; my business; my health.

I want so badly to own my own business successfully.

And there are SO many opportunities for me to make little growths right now.

Maybe it's time for me to realize it's NOT going to happen right now.

That there is NO WAY i can supplement my life with my business.

Maybe i need to just let the idea go.

Maybe i just need to let it go for now.

[Foodie Friday] Kitchen Sink Pizza

I made a SUPER easy pizza tonight JUST using whatever i had in the house! A "Bubbly" crust, a little bit of jarred tomato sauce, a little bit of jarred cream sauce, little bit of ricotta cheese, fresh mozzarella cheese [finely shredded], mushrooms and seasonings.


Everyday is CERTAINLY a super great day for pizza!

[HEAR This!] Saves The Day...SAVED my day.

So...i had the STELLAR opportunity to hear an incredibly inspiring concert; Saves the Day. Afterwards my friend, and his friends [who call themselves "The Buddy System"] invited me to hang out and meet all the Saves The Day folk.


I was so in awe of how down to earth and inspiring the guys were, that I started doodling their lyrics. This inspired me to then doodle other lyrics. THUS 'Hear This' Wednesday was born.


If you haven't heard of Saves The Day, or just don't know many of their songs, I'm telling you RIGHT NOW, these guys are the REAL deal. After you see Chris's emotion when he sings, Arun plays a kick @$$ guitar, Claudio has the best smile and energy, and Rodrigo is just hilarious.

I'm sure by now we have all heard this song.

I actually think it's pretty catchy and i could empathize with most of it. But i didn't QUITE realize what a strange strange video it had until my friend Nicole showed me.

Have you seen it yet? I think I'm most intrigued that the monkey on the right must have felt very uncomfortable with 'his pants down'. Because of his lack of 'liberality' he ruined the 'everything the same' dynamic. :)

Canvas', Cafes, and First art shows...

My show looks so swell! I'm so thankful! I've updated it a few times in the last two months and each time add more and more hand made canvas' and water colors. It's glorious having a space to hang my work, and i hope to have the privilege to do it again!

I truly LOVE how this canvas came out! So pretty, and cute. I love it!! <3


I am SO grateful for United Arts. I couldn't have done ANY of this without them. Just filling out the grant application gave me the COURAGE to apply to have my work at B3, the grant i won this year provided me with materials to make this show come true. I am so very blessed. I have sold originals, and prints at B3, Drunken Monkey, and Timothy's Gallery.


Bikes, Beans and Bordeaux has the BEST egg/cheese sandwich I've ever had.

I am SO blessed. Thank you to Jen and Darrell at B3, and to all my friends and family who have supported me, and purchased my art. I am honored, and so thankful for your support. It really does mean THE WORLD to me. :)

So..... i just came back from New York. I had the most incredible time. I've been living in nostalgia the whole week i've been back.

Camilo took me on lots of adventures; we were literally 'adventuring' from 10am to 4am every day i was there. CRAZY!

truth.

I stayed in Astoria, Queens, which i think might be my favorite 'borough' in NY. I LOVE the quaint brick houses, and that it's still full of people, yet not over crowded and intimidating like the city.

Although all the 2011 sketchbooks were on tour already when i got there, i got to enjoy the 2010 sketchbooks from the Sketchbook Project at the Brooklyn Art Library. What a pretty store!!

I also got to enjoy Renegade Craft Fair which was PRETTY STELLAR! I'm going to apply to it next year. ::crossing my fingers!!::


This was my first time riding a real train. It was kind of like a grey hound, only much larger. Double decker in fact! I made friends with the tattoo'd pierced, bald, ticket collector man. He was my peep! I seriously can't wait to go back!!! I miss my friends terribly, and can't wait to run a muck with them in the fall! Have you adventured anwhere recently? I'd love to hear about it! I've been struggling a whole lot lately....my anxiety has been at an all time high, and i'm at the point where I'm hibernating, and not wanting to see people or leave my house, but get extreme loneliness every other hour or so.... it sounds like a contradiction doesn't it?

Seeing as i am a very logical person, i wish i could see it as that and just dismiss whatever issue seems to be the problem. So, instead of freaking out over and over [oh wait no...i DO do that..] i decided to doodle the three statements i need to hear the most right now.

These are VERY important statements i think everyone should and needs to hear daily. So if you're not getting your daily dose of support or optimism, know that I'm out there, wishing these things for you!!!

I am utterly and completely in love with the show "Bones".

It's such a rarity that i actually watch a tv show consistently, and nearly IMPOSSIBLE that i would out of my way and spend money to purchase the DVD's of a series.

As an avid 'chick flick' fan in everything from the books i read, to the movies i watch, i never once even considered watching "Bones" until it was playing as back round noise while working at my parents house. But the more it played, the less i worked as i became captivated by the quirky humor, and intelligent scientific babble that helped solve murder cases.


I never watched"Angel" and never fancied David Boreanaz, but his character Booth is so genuinely sweet with Brennen...i find him very endearing. At least in this show.

Emily Deschanel is an amazing actress, and plays Dr. Brennen so well. I'm in awe that there are people IRL that are so smart, that they don't have a smidgen of so many general characteristics that most encompass.


If you're looking for a series to watch that has intelligent, witty humor, and a cast with amazing chemistry [punny!] then seriously, this show is for you! Have a beautiful day folks! - Jenipher
